I'm still working on this

So long as I have my mind

The Origin of My Nickname

This is actually my second attempt at writing a regular blog as I feel I wasn’t writing as frequently enough in the first attempt. So I thought I’d start the new (but old) one in some sort of logical order.

My name is Susie and that is my nickname. It all started when I entered primary school at the ripe young (not old) age of four and three months. My earliest memory of Year 1 was perhaps when I was standing next to the book box, a simple wooden thing with four square compartments on four little black wheels with books that had been colour coded according to reading skill. It feels so nostalgic to imagine it now, I often see them in the children’s section in the library and they look so much like toys, they’re so small.

Anyway, I was staring at the door to watch a lady and her daughter walk in. I think she was late and it was raining (or not raining, I don’t really remember but I’m pretty sure they were wearing coats). That was the first time I laid eyes on her, my oldest friend Rhianna.

Her name was probably the first name I learnt how to spell besides my own. I remember her specifically saying that there were two n’s in her name and not one. That made me smile.

She had a thing for The Rugrats (90’s kids television programme that featured babies as the main characters) and there was this one character called Susie (Carmichael, I believe). Even before she suggested the idea the name had stuck but I’m so glad it did because it helped me gain my first true friend and I have no doubts that she’ll remain one of my best friends forever.

That scatterbrained twenty something year old that wants to eat everything all time. The one that will stop at nothing to travel the world, the one who's loyalties lie with the people she loves. The one who will never give up on you and the one who radiates so much positivity that you might even find her a bit annoying sometimes.
